Admissions Frequently Asked Questions

Is there space available? What is the likelihood my child will be accepted?

Each year, space for new students is dependent on the enrollment of our returning families. We typically have 3-5 spaces available at the youngest age for each classroom. In the Children’s House, we may have an occasional space for a 4-year-old. It is very rare that we have openings at the kindergarten level.

When are applications due?

We begin accepting applications following a required observation and meeting with our Admissions Coordinator and/or Head of School. Applications are considered in the order they have been received, so we encourage families to submit applications as soon as possible after their observation.

Do you maintain a waitlist? How do I put my child’s name on it?

We place interested families on an Inquiry List upon receipt of our online inquiry form. The inquiry list allows us to keep organized records of families desiring enrollment, but it does not guarantee placement on a waitlist. Families on the inquiry list are offered classroom observations in the Fall or Spring prior to the year they are interested in, with an opportunity to apply following the observation.

The Waitlist we maintain is for families that have submitted an application and were not offered a space in the classroom due to spaces available. In order to be placed on the waitlist, a family must first visit our school for an observation, submit an application, and not be offered a space in our classroom.

I applied last year, and my child was not offered a space, yet a neighbor child was able to enroll immediately. How is that possible?

Our classroom balance changes every year as students move onto elementary and new students join the classroom. Date of birth and gender heavily impact the enrollment process, as does sibling priority status. If a family has submitted an application and was placed on the waitlist, we will contact them first if a space becomes available for their child.

Does the school provide lunch & snacks?

Little Oak does not provide lunches. Children staying for the full day are expected to bring a reusable container with a balanced, nutritious lunch. Snack is provided and snack prep is part of the classroom experience and environment. Children are able to prepare and eat the class snack at their leisure.

What is your travel and vacation policy?

We encourage regular attendance in order to get the most out of the classroom environment, with the understanding that absences are unavoidable. In order to provide continuity and consistency for each child in the classroom, this program would not be a good fit for families that travel for a large portion of the year.  We do not offer prorated tuition or reimbursement for days not in attendance, or for unavoidable school closure due to weather conditions or other emergencies.
